About SOUL

SOUL - Spirit Of Universal Love

We play an eclectic array of music including Soul, Funk, R&B, Rock and Folk. We love music in all its forms and our intention is to always bring positive energy to our performances. Most of the band members met each other at the Old Town School of Folk Music’s Soul Ensemble under the direction of Bill Brickey, and we are proud to be part of that tradition.

Steve Ordower was inspired to form a band to play music that moves the soul. He attended the Soul Ensemble at “Old Town” (mentioned above) and something beautiful happened. There was a guitar player (Jesus Ledesma) next to him, and he couldn’t help dig what he was throwing down…and vice-versa. As Steve was putting the group together jamming at his home, he asked Jesus to sit in on the next rehearsal. Steve and Jesus locked in immediately, hearing each other and collaborating organically. Steve kept asking Jesus back to rehearsal, neglecting to mention that he’d like Jesus to join the band. About 4 to 5 weeks in, Jesus told his wife…”I think I’m in a band.”

Steve also met bass player, Wesley Rogers, and vocalist, Andrea Rowden in the Soul Ensemble. The chemistry was natural.

Steve and drummer Marty Gahbauer played in a Reggae band (The Mighty Rebelz) for years together, and were both itching to play a variety of music. Steve met Marty from a German choir Marty and Steve’s wife, Christina, were in together. Christina mentioned to Steve that there was this guy in her choir that plays drums, and if we ever needed someone to sit in, he should call Marty. Steve did need a drummer to sit in with his Reggae band, and Marty was instantly the new drummer.

The band needed a keyboard player, and Steve’s son Eli was evolving as a musician rapidly, under the tutelage of master teacher and keyboard virtuoso, Bob Long. Eli took to the band dynamic like a duck to water, and became a regular member of the band straight away. Steve’s daughter, Sydney, has some pipes and contributes her vocal talents as her busy schedule permits. Yes, it really is a family affair all the way around.

Steve is very grateful his wife, Christina, enjoys the band’s music, so they can keep rehearsing at his home.
